Excerpts from a presentation - Secondary School Parent/Teacher/Guardian Night. How do we know that Steiner Education works for students – academically, as well as socially, spiritually, physically and emotionally? Welcome
Founded in 1988, Tarremah is Tasmania’s only Steiner School. In 2010, 230 students were enrolled in classes from Prep to Year 10. Tarremah also offers Early Childhood education for 4 and 5 year olds and Playgroup sessions for parents and 3 year olds.
Tarremah is located in Huntingfield, 15 minutes drive south of Hobart’s CBD.
At Tarremah, the unique spirit of each child is recognized and respected. Teachers work with a broad curriculum to create an environment which addresses the developmental changes of the growing individual. Each child’s inner life of imagination and creativity is cultivated, along with an enthusiasm for academic challenge and enjoyment of physical activity. Teachers strive for the balanced development of thinking, feeling and doing.
The innate creativity and joyfulness of healthy children is encouraged through an artistic approach to all learning areas.
The name “Tarremah” is derived from the word for albatross in the language spoken by the original indigenous inhabitants of Oyster Cove. The albatross embodies independence, devotion, skill and endurance. As birds are to the air, so thoughts are to the mind.
